Welcome

The Siouxland Community Foundation (SCF) provides services to donors to establish endowed funds without incurring the administrative and legal costs of an independent foundation. Individuals, families, corporations, nonprofits, private foundations and Siouxland communities can realize nearly any charitable intent. When creating a charitable fund within SCF you determine its purpose:

  • Assist the elderly
  • Enhance a neighborhood or community
  • Address community health issues
  • Feed the hungry
  • Provide scholarships
  • Provide a safe place for children to play
What is a Community Foundation?

A community foundation is composed primarily of permanent funds established by many separate donors for the long-term benefit of the residents of a defined geographic area.

Donors do not give to a community foundation they give to their community

Benefits of investing with Siouxland Community Foundation:

Permanence: A Gift to SCF can benefit the community in perpetuity. Donors can be confident that “endowment gifts” will always be available to meet the pressing and changing needs that exist in our great community.

Simplicity: Creating a philanthropic Fund through SCF is simple and quick, avoiding the legal complexity, administrative burdens and compliance requirements of establishing and maintaining a private foundation. SCF manages all investments, processes Fund distributions and files appropriate tax returns.

Flexibility: SCF can accept nearly any kind of gift – from cash and real estate to stock and other appreciated assets. An individual, family, business or organization can create a philanthropic Fund for any charitable purpose.

Tax Benefits: Gifts and bequests to SCF will receive the maximum income, gift and estate tax benefits. Integrate a charitable giving program through SCF with your overall financial plan could further these benefits. The IRS has classified SCF as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code.

Community Impact: Giving through SCF allows donors to put their charitable dollars directly to work in their community. SCF offers insight into community needs and the organizations fulfilling those needs.

History

Many years ago, a group of community leaders recognized the need to establish a lasting legacy for Siouxland. By their design, a flexible vehicle, known today as the Siouxland Community Foundation, was created through which Siouxlanders from all walks of life are able to give something back to the community with the assurance that their gifts will make a positive and perpetual difference.

The Siouxland Community Foundation was incorporated in 1988 and became an active grant making organization in 1991. The Foundation office is located in the historic, Frances Building in Sioux City, Iowa.

Our Mission

The Siouxland Community Foundation strives to enhance the quality of life in the greater Siouxland tri-state area by seeking charitable gifts to build permanent endowments as charitable capital for the community, providing a flexible vehicle to receive and distribute gifts of any size, making grants in response to community needs, and providing services that will help shape the well-being of Siouxland.
